Three people have died after a BMW crashed into a roundabout in Liverpool before “bursting into flames”.
Merseyside Police said the incident happened on East Prescot Road in the Knotty Ash area of the city at 12.15am on Monday.
Three people – a man and a woman in their 20s and a man in his 30s – were taken to hospital by ambulance but later died.
One of the first people on the scene of the horrific crash has described how they desperately tried to help before emergency services arrived.
The unnamed eyewitness said: “I was one of the first people on the scene of the crash.
“The car was up in flames within seconds after the initial impact with the roundabout…a number of people (myself included) did all we could to remove the people from the car before any emergency services arrived.
“There was then a lot of police, paramedics, fire engines etc at the scene within minutes. They all worked tirelessly from the second they got there to the second they left to give all three the best chance of survival.”
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “Their families have been informed and an investigation continues at the scene, including CCTV, witness and forensic inquiries.”
Road closures were put in place and the roundabout, on East Prescot Road, was closed in all directions.
