This summer is expected to be a busy one at the Nigel Eady County Ground, with only 13 players tied down for next season so far, and 18 of the current group not confirmed to be back.

When asked whether he thought of the loan players as being in the same situation as the permanent ones, Holloway said that he was expecting them to demonstrate why they should remain at Town next year.

He said: “Absolutely [they are on trial]. They have to play well otherwise, they will not have a future, will they?

“This is the whole point, and I think that is what you are seeing from them.

“The great news is that the ones who are already signed on for me next year are still playing well as well, Ollie [Clarke], Will [Wright], and Danny [Butterworth].

“It is great, and that is what it is about; they have all bought into wanting to win here and what a wonderful thing that is.

“Also, what do you want out of this? If you need a new contract, then you better do something about it.

“Some of my talks are very simple, and football, you should try and keep simple because it is a very complicated game.”

Tom Nichols and Kabongo Tshimanga have both been regular starters under Holloway, being key figures in the run away from relegation.

Since arriving in January, Joe Westley has generally been used as a finisher and to great effect as he has scored three goals despite only making one start; and Miguel Freckleton has worked his way back into contention having struggled earlier on in the season.
