West Ham United fell to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Friday night.

The Irons took an early lead thanks to a spectacular goal from Lucas Paquetá in the sixth minute. He hammered a twisting left-footed drive from 25 yards out into the top right corner of Robert Sánchez’s net, but Chelsea quickly took control of the match.

They equalised nine minutes later, as Marc Cucurella flicked Pedro Neto’s corner on for João Pedro to nod home.

West Ham thought they had re-established their advantage two minutes later, only for a VAR check to show Jean-Clair Todibo was offside in the build-up to Niclas Füllkrug blasting home.

And their mood was worsened on 23 minutes when Pedro Neto stole in to convert João Pedro’s cross from close range.

Then, with 34 minutes on the clock, a swift attack down the right ended with Estêvão cutting the ball back for an Enzo Fernández tap in.

The Hammers made two changes at the break, but soon found themselves 4-1 down as Moisés Caicedo pounced on an error from Mads Hermansen to convert Fernández’s corner.

Another corner on 58 minutes led to another goal as Trevoh Chalobah hooked into the net as Chelsea wrapped up a 5-1 scoreline.
