GRIMSBY Town boss David Artell felt his side were well worth their 2-1 win at Colchester United.

The Mariners claimed all three points at the JobServe Community Stadium, thanks to Evan Khouri’s 76th-minute winner.

Former Grimsby loanee Owura Edwards had earlier cancelled out Kieran Green’s opener for the visitors, who went four points clear of Colchester in the League Two play-off positions following the victory.

Grimsby boss Artell said: “It’s obviously a big win.

“Colchester are the form team in the division and have been over the last 20 odd games.

“We’ve gone to the top of the league (Walsall) and beaten them and now we’ve gone to the form team and deservedly beat them.

“I thought we had a group of players who were committed.

“Colchester are a good team, make no bones about it.

“They play with intensity, tempo and have some good players but so have we and I thought we stood up to all their threats.

“If anything, I thought we should have won the game by more.

“I thought it was a high intensity game.

“Sat in the stands, I can’t say it’s edge of the seat stuff – it’s not a World Cup Final – but it’s engaging, absorbing, it’s two good teams going at each other full throttle.

“We scored a great goal straight after half-time, they’ve scored a good goal and then we scored an excellent second goal, so I thought it had a bit of everything.

“You can see the pitch – I’ve think we’ve found one that’s probably just as bad as ours!

“It’s a good win – I thought we had a group of players who were really committed.

“We scored two cracking goals and as a coach, when you’re putting a game plan together and you show them things and practice some things and they have the skill and the courage to execute it, that doesn’t half give you a nice feeling.

It’s just another three – you don’t get four because it’s a big game.

“We’re grateful that we’ve got an extra day’s recovery before another big game on Tuesday but we’ll give anyone a game in this league and tonight, we have done.”
