
Several people have been left seriously injured following a crash which shut the southbound carriageway on the A1 for around five hours.
The southbound carriageway of the motorway was shut between junction 48 and junction 47
The crash happened around two miles after J48 at Boroughbridge, close to Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, at 7.50am today.

At the time of the closure, North Yorkshire Police said: “Emergency services are at the scene of a serious collision on the A1. The incident happened at 7.48am today and involved a single vehicle. The driver and passengers of the vehicle are believed to have serious, but not life threatening, injuries.
“Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
