Sheffield United target Kieren Flavell deserves the transfer attention he is drawing but must remain focused, says interim Barnsley boss Conor Hourihane.
Sheffield United might be prioritising the Championship promotion push but figures behind the scenes at Bramall Lane will have eyes on potential summer targets. SUFC have already been linked with players ahead of the next window.
The Blades’ transfer plans will likely differentiate heavily dependent on what division they find themselves in next season, so a wide range of options will be weighed up.

Among the players linked in recent weeks is Barnsley goalkeeper Kieren Flavell, who has broken into the starting XI and impressed under interim boss Conor Hourihane.
Now, Hourihane has been quizzed on the rumours.
Speaking to The Yorkshire Post, the temporary Barnsley chief admitted he isn’t aware of rumours regarding a Sheffield United swoop for Flavell, or anyone else for that matter. However, he insists the 21-year-old must remain focused despite the deserved interest. He said:
Sheffield United are not the only club rumoured to be eyeing Flavell ahead of the summer window. Premier League pair Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion have both been said keen alongside the Blades.
SUFC may face an uphill battle if they can’t offer a step up to the Premier League like the Cottagers and Seagulls, although a move to the Championship would still make for a brilliant surge up the leagues for youngster Flavell.
Over the 2024/25 season, the Barnsley goalkeeper has headed out on loan to find opportunities with Mickleover Sports and Farsley Celtic. He’s taken the chance when it has arisen at Oakwell though, making five League One appearances.
