Texas Tech has made a major statement about its future, rewarding head football coach Joey McGuire with a massive new contract worth $8.2 million annually. The announcement, made official this morning, reflects the university’s belief in McGuire’s vision, leadership, and the remarkable turnaround he’s engineered within the Red Raiders program.

In a statement, Texas Tech’s athletic director praised McGuire for “redefining the culture of Red Raiders football,” pointing to recent seasons filled with bowl appearances, top-tier recruiting classes, and an energized fanbase.

“Coach McGuire has done more than win games — he’s reignited the passion of our community, restored pride in the Double T, and positioned Texas Tech to compete at the highest levels nationally,” the university said.

Since taking over, McGuire has led Texas Tech to back-to-back winning seasons, defeated major conference rivals, and brought a physical, aggressive style of play that has thrilled fans. Off the field, he’s been praised for building strong relationships with players, alumni, and high school coaches across Texas, securing some of the program’s best recruiting hauls in over a decade.

McGuire’s new deal makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in the Big 12 and sends a clear message that Texas Tech is committed to stability and long-term success.

In a brief statement following the announcement, McGuire expressed gratitude to the university and fans. “I’m honored and excited to keep building something special here. We’re just getting started,” he said.

With lofty expectations now firmly in place, all eyes will be on Lubbock as McGuire and the Red Raiders aim to make an even bigger national impact in the seasons ahead.
