
A petrol station in Kılmarnock has been temporarily closed following a significant gas leak caused by a car crash in the New Farm Loch area. The incident occurred around 9:25 a.m. when a vehicle collided with a property on Livingston Court, leading to the evacuation of
Emergency services, including Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and Scottish Gas Networks, promptly responded to the scene. East Ayrshire Council confirmed that 35 properties were evacuated, and a 100-meter exclusion zone was established to ensure public safety. Residents were temporarily relocated to a rest center at St. Joseph’s Academy.
The petrol station, situated near the crash site, was closed as a precautionary measure due to the proximity of the gas leak. Scottish Gas Networks is currently assessing the extent of the damage and working to repair the leak. At this time, there have been no reported injuries or fatalities related to the incident.
A spokesperson for East Ayrshire Council stated, “We are working closely with our partners to manage the situation and ensure the safety of all residents. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
The closure of the petrol station and surrounding area has caused some disruption to local traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and follow any diversion signs in place.
