Tragic Crash  Leaves 4 Dead, 11 Fighting for Life, and 3 Hospitalized Following Fiery Collision and Chemical Spill

A devastating crash in Seacroft has claimed four lives and left eleven others critically injured after a fiery multi-vehicle collision caused a hazardous chemical spill late Tuesday night. Emergency services rushed to the scene near the A64 York Road, where chaos unfolded just after 10:30 p.m.

The collision involved a lorry carrying industrial chemicals and multiple vehicles. Eyewitnesses described a massive fireball erupting moments after impact, followed by thick plumes of smoke that could be seen from miles away. Several victims were trapped inside their vehicles, prompting a swift and large-scale emergency response.

Firefighters, paramedics, and hazmat crews worked through the night to rescue survivors, contain the blaze, and secure the area against the threat of chemical exposure. The exact nature of the chemicals involved has not been disclosed, but residents in the immediate vicinity were urged to stay indoors and keep windows closed.

“This was a deeply traumatic scene,” said West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Amanda Leigh. “Our crews acted quickly to save lives, but the scale of the incident was significant.”

Three additional individuals were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The road remains closed as investigations continue into the cause of the crash.

Authorities have launched a full inquiry, reviewing vehicle footage and speaking to witnesses to piece together what led to the deadly collision. Meanwhile, the local community is mourning, with floral tributes beginning to appear near the crash site.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” said Councillor Mark Jeffries. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this painful time.”

Police are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage to assist with the investigation as Seacroft grapples with one of the worst road incidents in its recent history.
