Man Found Dead Near Beith Following Pedestrian Collision on A737; Police Appeal for Witnesses
A tragic collision on the A737 has claimed the life of a 46-year-old man after he was struck by a vehicle late Wednesday night, prompting an urgent appeal for witnesses from Police Scotland.
The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on April 23, just south of Beith. Emergency services responded swiftly to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a black Land Rover Discovery Sport. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, but his next of kin have been informed. A collision investigation team attended the scene, and the road remained closed for approximately six hours overnight to allow for a full forensic examination. It reopened to traffic early Thursday morning.
Sergeant Gordon Stewart from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit issued a statement urging anyone who may have seen the man in the area prior to the collision—or who witnessed the incident itself—to come forward.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident,” Stewart said. “If you were driving in the area around the time of the collision, especially if you have dashcam footage, please contact us. Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could be crucial.”

The collision has shocked local residents, with many expressing concern over pedestrian safety on the A737, a key route between Glasgow and North Ayrshire known for its fast-moving traffic and limited lighting in rural stretches.
“This road has seen too many incidents,” said Beith resident Margaret Duffy. “It’s heartbreaking to hear someone’s lost their life here again.”
As police inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3927 of April 23, 2025.
The community remains on edge as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal collision.
