A murder investigation is underway in Sheffield after a man was found dead in the early hours of Wednesday morning, prompting swift action from South Yorkshire Police.

Emergency services were called to an address on Abbeydale Road around 2:30 a.m. following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a man in his 30s with injuries described as “suspicious and consistent with a violent assault.” Paramedics confirmed the man was deceased at the scene.

Police have since arrested two individuals — a 29-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman — on suspicion of murder. Both remain in custody as detectives continue their inquiries.

The area surrounding the property was cordoned off throughout the day as forensic teams carried out a thorough investigation. Officers also conducted door-to-door inquiries, speaking to local residents and gathering CCTV footage in a bid to piece together the events leading up to the man’s death.

“This is a deeply concerning incident and we are treating it with the utmost seriousness,” said Detective Chief Inspector Laura Harrison, who is leading the investigation. “We are committed to establishing exactly what happened and are urging anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward.”

The victim has not yet been formally identified, but efforts are underway to notify his next of kin.

The shocking incident has left the local community shaken, with residents expressing disbelief over the tragic news.

“It’s frightening — you don’t expect something like this to happen so close to home,” said one neighbour.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area during the early hours of Wednesday to contact them via 101, quoting incident number 124 of April 23.
