Man Dies After Release from Life Sentence; Police Investigate Sudden Death on Orchard Street
A 56-year-old man, Paul Wright, was found unresponsive on Orchard Street in Kilmarnock, Scotland, on April 22, 2025, shortly after his release from prison. Despite efforts by local residents and emergency services to revive him, Wright was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with the death, and investigations are ongoing.
Wright’s sudden death has left the community in shock. The incident occurred outside the home of Marvin Baird, a former television personality from “The Scheme,” who expressed his disbelief upon learning that the deceased was his long-time acquaintance. “I’d known Paul for years. He collapsed right outside my flat window. I saw all the fuss but didn’t realise it was him,” Baird said.
Witnesses reported that Wright had been acting erratically before collapsing. Police cordoned off multiple areas in the Longpark area and conducted fingertip searches, collecting CCTV footage to trace Wright’s movements prior to his collapse. A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated, “Around 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, emergency services were called to reports of an unresponsive man on Orchard Street in Kilmarnock. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 49-year-old man has been arrested …. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The circumstances surrounding Wright’s death remain unclear, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their investigation.
