Major Road Closed in Kent Following Serious Accident as Emergency Services Attend Scene and Drivers Urged to Avoid Area
Kent, UK – April 23, 2025
A major road in Kent has been closed following a serious traffic accident earlier today, causing significant disruption and prompting a strong response from emergency services. The incident occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m. on the A229 near Blue Bell Hill, a key route linking Maidstone and Chatham.
Kent Police have confirmed that multiple vehicles were involved in the collision, which led to extensive damage and several injuries. Ambulance crews, fire services, and traffic officers rushed to the scene, where at least two individuals had to be cut free from their vehicles.

A spokesperson for the South East Coast Ambulance Service stated, “We dispatched multiple units, including air ambulance support, to the scene. Several patients have been treated for injuries of varying severity and transported to nearby hospitals.”
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, though early reports suggest that poor visibility and slick road conditions due to overnight rain may have been contributing factors. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a car losing control before swerving into oncoming traffic.
Traffic has been brought to a standstill in both directions, with authorities urging drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Diversions have been put in place, but long delays are expected throughout the morning.
“We are asking motorists to steer clear of the A229 and surrounding areas until further notice,” said Chief Inspector Laura Bennett of Kent Police. “Our priority is ensuring the safety of those involved and reopening the road once it’s safe to do so.”
Local residents have expressed concern, as the road is one of the busiest in the county. Many commuters found themselves trapped in long queues or forced to abandon their usual routes.
The A229 is expected to remain closed for several hours while investigators carry out their work and recovery crews clear the scene. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact Kent.
